When I want to give my body the most nutrient-rich, life-giving foods, I reach for “superfoods.”

These special gifts from nature offer many more benefits that just fuel for my body.

Superfoods are fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and other plant-based foods that provide the human body with essential vitamins and minerals, as well as phytonutrients that go above and beyond simply feeding our cells.

Superfoods contain beneficial compounds like antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and anti-aging substances. The Earth’s most treasured foods that quality for superfood status help prevent cellular degeneration, and assist in curing illness and disease.

Superfoods that Heal

I love to incorporate superfoods like acerola cherry, maca, cacao, spirulina, and coconut oil into shakes, trail mixes, and even raw desserts. Superfoods also easily find their way into delicious cereals, salads, and raw entrees.

Okay, yes I add them to everything!

Here is a secret of mine………

I add kelp to almost everything I do. It is so easy to slip in unnoticed!!!!

Many superfoods come from the land, and a few are obtained from the sea. Regardless of their origin, science and research proves that these potent healing foods help to fight cancer, support good cardiovascular health, and regulate the body’s systems.

Some beneficial superfoods include:

  • Maca (raw) – helps reduce stress and keep hormones balanced
  • Cacao (raw) – acts as an antioxidant, lowering the risk of developing certain cancers
  • Almonds (raw) – a source of healthy, monounsaturated fat and protein
  • Coconut oil (raw, expeller-pressed) – rich in lauric acid, an antimicrobial and antiviral compound
  • Cashews (raw) – full of oleic acid, which helps prevent heart disease
  • Spirulina – one of the only plant sources of Vitamin B12
  • Bee pollen – thought of as a “complete” food source, harboring every nutritional element that the human body needs for survival/li>
  • Berries (raw) – an antioxidant-rich food that helps to reduce cholesterol and combat free radicals

This short list doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the vast supply of superfoods that the planet provides for our wellbeing.

Add some of these superfoods into juices, smoothies, cereals, and desserts:

  • Goji berries
  • Acai berries
  • Hemp seeds
