There’s nothing like a warm, healthy breakfast on a chilly morning to help you start your day right. It’s time to switch out those smoothies for something cozier this season.
Here are some breakfast ideas for fall so that you can enjoy the fall flavors while still getting in a healthy breakfast that will fuel you until lunch.
1. Oatmeal
Oatmeal is the easiest, quickest, and most versatile breakfast staple. You can let your steel-cut oats cook overnight in a slow-cooker and wake up with a healthy, warm breakfast waiting for you. Add any topics you like, but definitely try some baked apples and cinnamon for the ultimate fall flavors. The fiber from the oats and apples will keep you full, while the cinnamon will sweeten it up without adding any sugar. Sprinkle with some toasted pecans for some healthy fats, and you have a perfectly balanced breakfast that will hit the spot.
2. Breakfast Burrito
Change it up this season with a healthy breakfast burrito. Roast some butternut squash, sweet potato, or pumpkin, and add any other veggies you like. Make your scrambled eggs (or egg substitute), mix in the vegetables, and put it all in a warm whole-grain tortilla. There are great gluten-free options, as well. The butternut squash provides you with healthy complex carbohydrates, and you can add sliced avocado for some healthy fats.
3. Spice Granola
Homemade granola is much cheaper and healthier than those bought in the store. Store-bought granolas contain lots of added sugars. With homemade granola, you can control how much of each ingredient goes in. Pumpkin spice is a signature fall flavor that we know and love— add some to your granola with roasted nuts and seeds and some oats. After baking in the oven, add your delicious granola to your oatmeal or coconut yogurt, or eat it on its own.
4. Apple Cinnamon Muffins
Nothing screams “fall” quite like apple cinnamon flavor. Muffins make an easy and quick breakfast that you can bake in advance for those rushed mornings. Add ground flaxseeds for some omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. The apples make the muffin moist while also adding fiber and vitamin C. Apples are also rich in antioxidants, which help fight off free radicals and keep your immune system strong.
5. Healthy Oat Pancakes
Who doesn’t love pancakes? Make a healthy alternative for fall with oats, pumpkin, or apple puree, almond milk, and some eggs/egg substitute. These pancakes are rich in fiber, which is essential for digestion and keeps you satisfied for longer. Add some seasonal fruits as toppings.
6. Quiche
Quiche is another amazing breakfast idea you can make in advance and warm up quickly in the morning. Add some seasonal veggies, and spinach, for the tastiest flavor and tons of micronutrients, such as vitamin K, E, and A. If you don’t eat eggs, there are great egg substitutes that allow you to still make a delicious quiche you’ll love!
